Ron Drake, Guest Speaker Okmulgee Rising, Okmulgee Toastmasters April 7, 2017
Ron Drake
Ron Drake is all about improving the quality of life in small town America. Through his different companies he bought and sold over 45 homes in the Siloam Springs area, specializing in historic neighborhoods.
Ron made the shift to the core downtown and has restored 17 historic buildings, revitalizing over 75,000 square feet of downtown space and helped turn an unlively downtown into a vibrant cultural center, and was instrumental in Siloam Springs' recent listing as Number 14 in Smithsonian Magazine’s Best Small Towns in America. Ron took on an almost non-existent Main Street organization, and with his leadership brought it to one of the most successful Main Streets in Arkansas. Walking down the streets of Siloam Springs, visitors comment on the tapestry of community support, beautiful architecture, and thriving businesses.
This lends itself as proof that America has a demographic of people looking for vibrant small towns to build a life in. Ron started consulting in 2014 to come alongside other community leaders as they focus on the goal of having a beautiful and thriving downtown.
In 2014, Main Street Arkansas awarded Ron the Main Street Hero award, an extremely high honor. Other accolades include: Best Renovation Project for buildings over 5,000SF for 28 Springs, Outstanding Personal Project for the restoration of the Connelly-Harrington House (where his office is housed), Chamber Business of the Year in 2010, Main Street Volunteer of the Year in 2010, and a past honoree of the 40 under 40 by the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal. Ron’s projects are visible in multiple news, TV and magazine stories, sharing his practical approach to preservation. Ron shares his story in his book, Flip this Town- Preservation Made Practical on Main Street USA, giving inspiration to small towns all across America.
